The DCB Committee and Ambassadors are exceptional professionals with a variety of talents and experiences. There is one distinct aspiration inherent in all members; it is the passion and commitment to civic engagement. Collectively, the efforts of this group aim to enhance the health & well-being of others. Please meet the 2016 Sparkle Dental Charity Ball Team!
One of the greatest sprinters of all-time, Hall of Fame track & field legend, Donovan Bailey, is a 3x world record holder (current record holder over 50m ), 2x Olympic champion (1996 - 100m and 4x100m) and 3x world champion (1995 in the 100m and 4x100m and 1997 in the 4x100m,silver in 100m). He was named Track & Field News sprinter of the decade for his stellar 10 year career (1991-2001) greatest sprinter in Canadian history and was only anchor of all of Canada's gold medal team relay wins to date.
His accomplishments on the track and in the boardroom have helped Bailey develop a vast global network and led to his appointment as a board member, brand ambassador or spokesperson for a range of organizations and causes including: Adidas, Coca-Cola, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada, Alzheimer's Research, Participaction, and the Humber River Hospital Foundation.
Karen Ergus, RDH, JD
Karen has been an advocate for Oral health synergy for over thirty years. She consistently works with organizations that focus on giving back to the community and promoting the human condition. She is a testament to those trying to make a difference in the lives of others. Recently, completing Law School has given her the opportunity take oral health into new and exciting areas. Recipient of 2015 CDHA Global Health Initiative Awards sponsored by SUNSTAR G•U•M: National Category
Dr. Line Fournier, DDS
Line Fournier grew up in Edmundston, New Brunswick. She completed her undergraduate studies at l’Université de Moncton, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, with a Minor in Psychology and a Major in Biology. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree, Dr. Fournier pursued her studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax where she obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2001.
Dr. Fournier appreciated being able to practice comprehensive dentistry in areas that were not regularly serviced by dentists and dental specialists. She also obtained hospital privileges at the Whitehorse General hospital where she provided comprehensive treatments, mostly for pediatric patients
Dr. Fournier has been established in the Ottawa region since 2005. Her growing practice is one of cosmetic and comprehensive dentistry. When she is not working, you can find her spending time wither family and friends, relaxing by the lake, skiing down the slopes or exploring a new part of the world.
Dr. Shahram Yazdani,
Dr. Shahram Yazdani earned an honours degree in Biochemistry at the University of Ottawa and a Doctorate in Dental Surgery at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Yazdani strives to change the way that patients view and experience dentistry. The focus of his practice is to provide patients with a WOW experience that diminishes fear and makes future visits nothing but enjoyable. Dr. Yazdani participates in "From Our Hearts to Your SMILE", an annual event in which he opens the clinic's doors one Saturday in June to provide free dentistry to patients in need.
Dr. Yazdani was born in Born in Nairobi, Kenya and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, where he has resided since the age of four. He saw Dr. Thibault from age six to seventeen, until his brother graduated and became his dentist and mentor. When Dr. Yazdani joined the team at Healthy Smiles, he learned a great deal from Dr. Barkley and was reunited with Dr. Thibault, who gladly took on the role of mentor. Dr. Yazdani enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and going on adventures. He LOVES reading, and particularly enjoys learning about leadership and team work. Currently, Dr. Yazdani is on a personal growth plan created with resources by John C. Maxwell.
Amanda Acker, RDH
Amanda practices patient advocacy primarily amongst underserviced demographics. She is the proud owner of an independent dental hygiene clinic. There, both she and her team implement this professional philosophy by providing services to low-income individuals, as well as the general public. She maintains interdisciplinary partnerships within the community through various public health centers such as the ROMHC and the city of Ottawa’s Community Health Centres. She is thrilled to be part of this holistic initiative!
Dr. Simi Silver, DDS
Dr. Silver has received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto in 1996. She has experience and proficiency in many dental treatments including cosmetic, preventative, root canal treatments, prosthodontic (dentures, crowns), implants, whitening and night and sports guards. Dr. Silver has five young children and enjoys camping, skiing, singing and reading.
Kathleen Feres Patry
Kathleen has advocated for the profession of Dental Hygiene for over 35 years. She is a passionate Ethics & Jurisprudence Instructor, and practises part time at Kanata Dental Hygiene. She is a Life Member of the Ottawa Dental Hygienists' Society, received an Ontario Dental Hygienists' Association Distinguished Service Award and recently was honored with the 1st College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario Peer Mentor of the Year Award (2014).
Sherry Priebe RDH,
Sherry impacts the lives of people globally with her dental hygiene life focus to “assist people to attain optimum oral health through research, education and clinical practice”. Sherry graduated with her Dip.DH (UofA), BDSc and MSc (UBC). She has published in the Vietnam J of Med and Pharm, the Can J of Dent Hyg, the Int’l J of Dent Hyg and the Dent Health J (UK). Sherry was awarded the ‘World Dent Hyg Award in Research’ by SUNSTAR for oral cancer and cultural factors in Vietnam in 2010.
Dr. Marina Polonsky
Marina is a full time general dentist and owner of the Alta Vista (http://avlaserdentistry.com/) Laser Dental Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. She graduated with Dean's Gold Medal from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 1999. She is a member of OKU Honour Dental Society
Dr. Polonsky has been a laser user since 2006, she received her fellowship with WCLI in 2011 and her mastership with WCLI in 2012. She continued her laser education with completing her Mastership with AALZ laser academy in Aachen, Germany in 2015 and is currently working on completing her thesis for Master of Science in Lasers in Dentistry at RWTH University in Aachen, Germany.
B.Sc, Dip.DH, RDH
Larissa Bubnowicz discovered her love and passion for oral health care during her undergraduate studies for a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. A Registered Dental Hygienist since 2013, Larissa has developed, honed and nurtured her skills as a clinician, researcher and academic. She is an instructor for the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manitoba College of Dentistry and has conducted internationally acclaimed research on dental enamel fluoridation. Larissa is currently in her second term as President of the Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association.
Dr. Bryan Altshuller
Bryan commenced his studies at McGill University in Montreal in the Bachelor of Science program in 1982. He continued his studies at McGill with the completion of a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1988. After a brief multidisciplinary internship at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. he practiced general dentistry in Montreal until 1990. Bryan resides in Ottawa with his wife and two teenage children. Bryan is an active member of the community and regularly contributes to local charities and sponsorship of local events. When he is not busy running his popular orthodontics practice, Bryan enjoys golf, running and tennis.

Lisa has advocated for the profession of dental assisting, front desk, managing, consulting for 28yrs. She is a strong believer in communication and team work. She enjoys managing the incredible doctors and team at Kanata Dental Centre and is a long standing member of the Ontario Dental Assistants Association. Oral Cancer has been a topic close to her heart and she has done fundraising and has been able to raise over $14,000 for the Cancer centre in Ottawa.
Dr. Jin Soo Song,
Originally from Montreal, he has an undergraduate degree from McGill University and graduated from Dental school at the University of Montreal in 2001. Now practices general dentistry in Ottawa since 2004. As the Principal at Metro Dental Clinic, a visit to the Metro Dental Clinic will be a pleasant step in your journey to protect your smile and dental health.
Jamie Carle, R.N
Jamie is a community health nurse in the first nation community of Kitigan Zibi where she specializes in maternal and child health. She is an advocate for the health of first nation peoples. She is focused on giving back to the community and promoting healthy lifestyles in order to build a healthy community. She strongly believes that by improving knowledge about oral health among first nation peoples, a strong foundation for overall health can be obtained.
Robin Stout, RDH
Robin has over 25 years of experience in the dental field. She has provided clinical dental hygiene care and community outreach health promotion in Ontario, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Robin's passions are to increase access to dentistry for those in need and to encourage self-advocacy for services that improve overall health.
Ruddy Daniels, Owner,
Main Street Magazines Ottawa
As a long-term resident who resides in Ottawa with his son Jacob, Ruddy is a creative and resourceful individual who maintains a positive attitude and has a conscientious nature. An instructor for more than 20 years in the martial art of Taekwondo, he is an avid golfer and sports fan, who also enjoys Latin dancing (instructs salsa classes on occasion) and has been an active basketball official since 1987.
Joe has an extensive and distinguished background in the business world. A champion in the sales and skills development industry makes him a valuable component in our outreach strategy. In his free time he enjoys entrepreneurial efforts and networking with passionate organizations focused on building grassroots relationships.
Véronique Rozon, OCT
Véronique is a vibrant outgoing teacher of over nine years. She teaches a variety of disciplines but enjoys educating the youth about instilling healthy lifestyles and practises. She is involved in after school programs geared towards young females to develop and promote healthy ways of life. She is a living example of her teachings; she thoroughly enjoys fitness training and volleyball.
Dorothy Garlough, RDH
Dorothy recognizes that a healthy culture is the number one challenge to long term success in dentistry today and commits to raising engagement through her customized programs. Her mandate is to help dental offices reach their goals to create the tomorrow of their dreams. This process begins with action today, actions that are forward looking, wise and creative. As an innovation architect, Dorothy teaches others to look beyond the obvious for ideas and solutions to ongoing challenges. Her expertise in creating a dynamic and powerful culture in the dental office results in a united, cohesive team that leads to the success of the business.
Rania graduated from Concordia University with a Commerce degree and is currently working towards a Graduate Certificate in Event Management. She has experience in both the non-profit sector as well as the private sector organizing galas, charitable auctions, corporate meetings, employee recognition programs, music recitals and other activities. In her spare time, she loves to volunteer for charities and causes that support children and other vulnerable populations.
